The Kambo Ceremony: What to Expect

A ceremony takes about 2–3 hours from arrival to leaving. The active part lasts 20–40 minutes. I'm with you the whole time.

Before your ceremony

  • Fast for 8–12 hours (no food from the night before; small sips of water are fine).
  • Avoid alcohol and recreational substances for at least 48 hours.
  • Wear comfortable clothes and bring a change of clothes.
  • Plan to rest for the rest of the day.
  1. Arrival and intention

We sit together, review your health form one more time, and set your intention. I'll explain every step before it happens.

  2. Water

You'll drink water before the medicine is applied, in an amount I guide you to. It helps the purge. I never ask you to force down large amounts.

  3. The application

I make small superficial burns ("gates") on the skin, usually on the arm or leg, and apply small dots of Kambo. First-timers start with one test point. Most people receive 1–5 points in a session.

  4. The active phase

Within a few minutes you'll feel warmth, a faster heartbeat, and flushing or swelling in the face. Nausea follows, and most people purge into a bucket. It's intense but short: the peak lasts about 5–15 minutes. I guide your breathing throughout.

  5. Rest

I remove the Kambo, you rest, and I offer fruit, electrolytes or tea. Many people feel calm and clear at this point.

After your ceremony

Most people feel tired that evening and lighter the next day. Drink plenty of fluids with electrolytes, eat light, avoid alcohol for 24 hours, and give yourself space. The small marks on your skin usually fade within weeks, sometimes leaving a faint dot.

Sananga and Rapé (optional)

I also offer sananga, a traditional Amazonian eye drop, and rapé, a ceremonial tobacco snuff. Both are optional.
